Illustrative Map-making

Brooklyn Brainery || Illustrative Map-Making Highlights

Some absolute beauties from the Illustrative Map Making classes at the Brooklyn Brainery from January-April. With creative implementations such as a layered, fan-type map or a wedding invitation. But also plenty of new travel inspiration, with one of my students coming from Montevideo. A truly beautiful city, with some real interesting architecture. But also a more touching take on map making, mapping personal memories and experiences.

And below a larger overview:

Drawing Crash Course

This crash course is great if you have always wanted to learn how to draw.

Explaining proportion

Whether your last art class was in high school, or if you just want to refresh or add to your drawing skills and knowledge.

It’s a fun, hands-on, drawing class, where the first part starts off with a few warm-up sketches, followed by exercises introducing some of the essential drawing techniques.

The second part is about putting what you’ve learned into practice, where you’ll work on your own piece(s), at your own pace. This allows for the opportunity to ask one-on-one feedback or other questions you might have when you get stuck with the drawing process.

DIY Cards

Brooklyn Brainery || DIY Cards Highlights

So much work to do in just 2 hours. An insight to an average class:

  • Sketching: coming up with an idea
  • Test stamp: getting the hang of the technique
  • Carving the print (Which takes time)
  • And then….15 left: go print everything. Luckily this doesn’t take longest.

Printing cards always ends up being a time-pressured process. And it amazes me how many cards people are able to print in the last 15 minutes of a class. Below some beauties from the Valentine’s Day class

And some cards and stamps for other occasions. Don’t you just love the little milk and coffee stamps?

Experimental Watercolours

A full on 2,5 hour class, playing with different tricks and utensils to create some funky watercolour effects. Starting with the very basics, followed by a dive into different experimental paintings, finishing with some personal work.
